You know how last year, I ran a marathon, then six weeks later I ran another marathon, then six DAYS later I ran a half marathon? And I said I’d never do that again? I lied. Okay, I didn’t really lie. I didn’t do the whole back to back marathon thing, and I didn’t run a half either, but I did run a race just six days after running a marathon. And you know what? I loved it!
Sooo.. the 2015 Walt Disney World Marathon. That was fun. I’m going be be 100% honest here and say that if it weren’t for the fact that my husband and friends were running this race, there’s a good chance that it would have been my first DNS.
Ahh the Space Coast Half Marathon. AKA my slowest race ever. First, before we even talk about the race, look at these splits: 5K – 35:33, 10K – 1:16:07, 15K – 1:57:02, Half – 2:48:12, Average Pace – 12:51 — Yes, that average pace was even slower than my first marathon here last year. And you know what? I’m 100% okay with that!
I didn’t realize how long it’s been since I’ve written here. Yikes. I didn’t intentionally take a break – I’ve actually started to write a recap of the Wine & Dine Half Marathon weekend at Epcot a few times, but just never really felt up to it. I thought that maybe once the race pictures were posted, it would inspire.. something. The one picture taken of me while running the race didn’t do much to inspire anything though. It actually bummed me out a little. Long story short (I’ll explain more later), Adam and I had a really great weekend. Wine & Dine is probably my most favorite race and I enjoyed it. However, the race itself was a bit ho-hum this year since the weather didn’t really cooperate and I hurt my hip while running, so instead of finishing happy and all smiles, instead I was cold, wet, in pain, and bummed.
I debated running the Memorial Day 5K, we didn’t sign up until two days before and ultimately decided to do it because we did it last year. Much like this year, I took a break from running after the Bainbridge Half to let my body recover from the training. My body didn’t really need to recover this year, but mentally I just haven’t been there. I’ve had no desire to run at all. Last year, I ran a PR at the Memorial Day 5K and was really, really happy with my time.
Every time I start to write a race recap, I want to say it’s one of my favorite races. I feel like I say that about all of the races.. perhaps I just like to run races? Who knows. Last year, I went into pretty great detail about the Bainbridge Half Marathon so I’ll spare you this year. If you’re not familiar with it though and you’re anywhere near South West Georgia, you may want to check it out. I posted lots of pictures of the course last year and it’s really pretty. Adam was running the half this year too, along with my cousins Drew and Celia. Technically I guess Celia is my cousin-in-law. She’s married to my cousin Daryl, but I like her so I claim her as my own
Ohh look, I’m finally recapping the 2014 Gate River Run, it’s about time since the race was in mid-March! Last year was the first time I ran the Gate River Run. It’s a HUGE event in Jacksonville, it seems like everyone in our running community runs it. This year, if I remember correctly, there were just under 20,000 runners and walkers. It’s hard for me to visualize that many people.. maybe it is for you too? This should help.. this is the Main Street Bridge in downtown Jax.
I’m like a million years late writing this recap and it’s not because I didn’t have fun. I had a blast. How could you not with this craziness going on?!
If you read my Enchanted 10K recap, you know that I went into the Disney Princess Half Marathon not feeling my best. I’d been battling a nasty sinus infection and was super stressed with work. Despite all of that, I was really excited to run the half.
