Baby Update: 20 Week Appointment

We had our 20-week checkup with Dr. Greenwald this morning – and everything looks great! :) She said the top of my uterus is just above my belly button, which is just a little higher than it should be, but totally normal.

McLovin’ was a little on the stubborn side, he didn’t want to be still so they could get his heart rate on the doppler (it was in the 140s). He kept squirming around and I think he kicked the doppler twice – I could feel it from the inside and there was a thumping noise on the doppler!

Our next appointment is on February 27th with Dr. Greenhaw, I’ll have my Gestational Diabetes test that day – oh so yummy orangey, sugary drink and a finger prick.. fun times!

Baby Update: 20 Weeks

20 Week Update:

This week you’re carrying about 10.5 inches and 10.5 ounces of solid baby-miracle-goodness! His delicate little bones continue to ossify and harden while his itsy bitsy finger and toe pads are finishing up.

Your little monkey now has teeth buds, although they’re hidden beneath the gum line. And finally! His limbs have reached their relative proportions — no more alien baby!

His cute pink lips are more defined, and might be helping out in a bit of prenatal thumb-sucking. His skin begins to thicken this week and will develop four layers. His sebaceous glands secrete a waxy substance called vernix caseosa. The vernix caseosa is crucial because it protects the fetus’ fragile skin from the continuous immersion in amniotic fluid. Lanugo hairs secure the vernix caseosa in place and it is thick around the eyebrows. Scalp hair and toenails are beginning to form at this point. Hair can also be seen on the upper lip and eyebrows.

At this point, your little one really looks like a miniature baby — and we do mean miniature, as your little guy currently weighs a mere eighth of his final birth weight. With half the pregnancy behind you, the most significant gains are yet to come!

Happy Birthday Michelle!

For Michelle’s birthday, we went to a rugby match at UNF and then out to dinner and the beach.. I’m thankful that Colleen and Jonathan came up, because otherwise I would have been SO confused at the rugby match! Dinner at Bonefish was super yummy and we had a blast at Fionn McCools! :)
