Recovering From Surgery

The surgery went well – I’m home and resting. It sucks, I can’t pick up Braden but my mom’s here and has been good about bringing him to me so I can at least snuggle with him.

Dr. P said it went really well, he had to remove some tissue because it was dead and he said they were able to drain all of the yucky stuff out and that he thinks it will heal very nicely and I should have minimal scaring.

The car ride home was awful, the wounds are open and I felt every single bump.. ouch. I have a nurse coming to the house twice a day to repack the wounds for me until it heals (which will take about 2-3 weeks).

The good news out of all of this is that they extended my short term disability for another two weeks, so I don’t have to go back to work until the 18th (I was supposed to go back Monday).

Surgery for Me

I went back to Dr. Piperno today. Since yesterday I’ve been hurting pretty bad again and the redness and swelling has been back in both breasts, as soon as he saw me this morning he said he’s going to have to do surgery on both to remove the abcess/infection.

He wanted to do it this afternoon but thankfully I talked him into tomorrow morning.. its at 9:45AM. They told me I’ll be in isolation because its MRSA and from now on anytime I’m admitted to the hospital I’ll be on contact isolation – I guess once you have MRSA they always treat you like you have it.

It’s outpatient so I’ll be home tomorrow afternoon. They have to leave the incisions open so that they can heal from the inside out and I will have to have the wounds repacked every day until they heal.

I’m really not looking forward to it and I’m pretty freaked out. I’ve never had surgery and I’ve never been put to sleep before. I’m so worried that I won’t be able to hold Braden afterwards, that will kill me.

One Month

Braden’s 1-month check up with the pediatrician was today, Dr. White said he looks great! He got his Hepatitis B vaccine and they checked out his breast and said it looks great (actually half of the office came to look at it, they were shocked at how nicely it healed).

Our little chunky monkey now weighs 13 pounds and is 23 3/4 inches long. He’s in the 95th percentile for weight and the 75th for height – Dr. White says thats great! I talked to her about increasing the amount of formula he gets, since he’s eating every hour and a half during the day and she said that would be fine. We’re going to try giving him 5 oz at a time and see how that works. I also asked her about his pooping problems and she said they are totally normal – good to know :)
