Update on B

I took Braden back to see the pediatrician today. Unfortunately the culture they took Monday didn’t show anything because there wasn’t enough of the goo, so she wanted to redo it today. Once she looked at the spot though, she decided that it needed to be drained :( Sound familiar? Yep, this is exactly what we went through with Braden’s breast when he was 2 weeks old. I said it then and I’ll say it now, no parent should ever have to hold their child down and watch them go through that. It was awful and heartbreaking, he kept screaming “NO! MOMMY! NO! HURT! NO!”. Then in typical Braden fashion, he bit a nurse. It took 3 of us to hold him down. Poor little (well, not so little, according to their scales, he’s weighing in at 38 pounds these days) guy.

They’ll call us with the lab results when they come in, but she’s convinced that its MRSA. Hopefully they won’t have to drain it again and this will all be behind us now.

Little Spot

Braden is sick, again. Not that you can tell from looking at him, but he’s had a little pimple that has been worrying me since Saturday so I took him to visit the pediatrician this morning. She is concerned that it’s another MRSA infection, so she took a culture, prescribed Bactrim and highly advised us to keep him home so that he doesn’t share the lovely germs with any of his daycare buddies. I took the rest of the day off and we hung out at home, I love being home with him. I wish I could stay home with him full-time, but unfortunately it’s just not an option at this time.

He looks sick, right?

Yep, definitely sick

So Handsome!

Where’s Thomas??

Waiting for Grandma

I have to share tihs video. Braden recently started saying grandma, though it comes out more like “ma-maw”. We were waiting for my parents to come by this afternoon.. he was a bit excited when they arrived :)

Friends, Ears, Milk, and a New Car

Not a whole lot has been going on with us – we still have lots of visitors coming to meet our little man :)

Don & Jackie came a few weekends ago. We had such a great time hanging out with them – they’re coming back for Thanksgiving with their kids and I’m really looking forward to it.

We got a new [used] car too. We all know how much I hated the Jeep. It started giving us some problems and we weren’t comfortable with me driving around in it with Braden, so we traded it in for a Nissan Pathfinder. I absolutely love it – it has all of the upgrades like my Murano did and there is SOO much room in it!

Braden has been feeling a little under the weather. He was up ALL night on Tuesday – he was only sleeping for about 20-30 minutes at a time and was just so fussy. It’s really unlike him, so I took him to see Dr. White on Wednesday. He has the beginning of an ear infection (I’m assuming from when he pee’d in his ear.. my talented little one), a sore throat AND is teething. Poor little guy – it’s no wonder that he was so fussy! He seems to be doing better now, although our entire house reeks of Vicks Vapors stuff from the humidifier!

The good news from his appointment is that he’s still gaining weight like he should be. I was a little worried about it since he’s been breastfeeding again, but he’s up to 17 lb, 8 oz! He’s my little chunky monkey :) Breastfeeding is going really well – I am thrilled to be doing it again! I don’t pump often, but look what I got on Saturday… 5.5 oz!

I also had a post-op appointment with Dr. Piperno this week. I’m SO not happy. I’m still a bit red, and had some other stuff going on so he is worried that the infection is not completey gone. I’m back on Bactrim (an antibiotic) for a week and if the redness doesn’t go away, he’s sending me for another ultrasound. If the ultrasound shows an infection, I will have to have surgery again. Cross your fingers that the redness goes away – I do NOT want to go through all of that again.

That’s pretty much it for us.. here are some pictures of our little guy :) He is learning so much. He loves playing in his bouncy seat and exersaucer. He is learning to grab things and is so interested in everything going on around him.

Healed

See I told you I was uploading them, you just have to be patient :) (It seriously took freaking forever, I don’t know whats going on with our internet but its slower than dial-up.. that should make working oh-so-fun tomorrow!)

Anyway, it’s been a while. I’m almost completely healed from surgery! My mom still packs the wounds twice a day, but there is not much to pack anymore. Some of you will probably think I’ve lost my mind when you read this next part, but I will tell you anyway..

I’m breastfeeding again! :) I didn’t know it was possible, but it is! My friend Amy pointed out that Braden was trying to latch on at lunch the week before last and then I realized that night that I was still producing milk (not much, but some). Amy told me about relactating, so I started talking to Heather (the doula that helped with Braden’s birth) and Mrs. Mason (aka Big Brat.. she’s a lactation consultant) about it. They were both SUPER supportive and very helpful!

So, I pump like crazy and I’m using a supplemental nursing system and we’re still supplementing with bottles of formula. I may not produce enough to exclusively breastfeed, but every little bit that he gets helps.. and we both really enjoy it.

I’ve been very good at making sure that I’m taking care of myself this time and I pay very close attention to Braden when he’s on to make sure that he’s not doing any damage so that I don’t end up sick like I was last time. So far things are going great!

I started back to work yesterday and it was Braden’s nanny’s first day. She’s such a sweet girl and does an awesome job of taking care of Braden and her little girl Marissa. I barely heard a peep out of either one of the babies. It was really hard to sit in the office all day working and let her take care of him, I wanted to go in there and just snuggle him and feed him all day, but I have to work :( I wish we would win the lottery or something so that I could be a stay at home mom!! It’s funny, I never wanted to be one before.. but now, I’d give anything to be able to do it.

That’s pretty much all that’s been going on with us – we continue to have TONS of visitors – everyone wants to meet Mr. B! I’ll hush now since all you really want are the pictures of our little guy.. :)

Oh, and the paci you see in all of those pictures.. it’s gone, for now at least! It causes nipple confusion with breastfed babies, so he’s a non-paci baby until we get established again!

It’s really nasty out and the power just started flickering, so I’m heading to bed.. everyone be safe tonight! I’ll post the pictures from today tomorrow!
