Remember back a few years ago (okay, a few more than a few.. but I don’t want to totally show my age) when the email surveys were all the rage? I loved those things. Loved reading them, loved filling them out, just loved them.
Jesica from rUnladylike recently posted a This or That running survey and I loved reading her answers, so I thought I’d answer them too. I’d love to hear your answers, so please share yours too!
1. Would you rather run a 5K or a marathon?
This is really hard. I don’t love or hate either distance. My sweet spot is the half – I feel like I can push myself without wanting to die at that distance. Marathons just hurt, no matter how much you train. I guess I’d pick a marathon though. I really don’t enjoy running 5K’s, I do them a few times a year, but that all out sprint for 3.1 miles just doesn’t do it for me.
2. Would you rather run a flat race in the heat or a hilly race in the cold?
Flat race in the heat. This Florida girl is not a fan of hills at all. Perhaps if I had more hills to train on, I’d be okay with them, but I don’t so I’ll stick with what I know.
3. Would you rather get new running shoes or a new running outfit?
New running shoes – new shoes always motivate me to get out the door. Hmm.. perhaps I should pay a visit to my local running store..
4. Would you rather run a marathon without headphones or a Garmin?
It depends. If I’m running on my own, then Garmin-less for sure! I use music to motivate me and to distract me, I can’t imagine running a marathon without it. However, if I’m running with friends, I could do without the music since we could chat the entire time.
5. Would you rather choose a race because of the convenience (location, price, travel) or the swag?
I choose races based on the location, course, and fun factor. I couldn’t care less about the race shirts and medals, but love race weekends that we can treat as a getaway, which is why we run so many of the runDisney events. Race weekends with friends are even better! We’re running the Wine & Dine half this fall with some good friends of ours and I seriously cannot wait!
6. Would you rather run a PR that results in an injury or finish strong and miss a PR?
Finish strong and miss a PR every time. Being injured is no fun at all and not worth the PR. There is always another race.
7. Would you rather do 100 squats or 100 push-ups?
I should probably say 100 push-ups, since I can’t do them now and it would be a challenge.. but I’ll go with 100 squats. They’re one of my favorite cross training exercises and it doesn’t hurt that they make your toosh look great in jeans!
8. Would you rather run without socks or without a sports bra?
Definitely socks. I’m not huge up top but the idea of running without a sports bra and the girls flopping all over the place is just not pleasant.
9. Would you rather run on a treadmill for an hour or run around the same street block for an hour?
Treadmill, for sure. At least then I can prop my iPad up on the display and catch up on the shows I’ve missed. I don’t think I could deal with the treadmill for more than about an hour or so, even with the iPad for entertainment, it gets boring pretty fast.
10. Would you rather run a Ragnar Relay or be part of a marathon relay team?
A Ragnar Relay! Running one of these is on my bucket list and I hope to do one in the very near future! I just need to convince some of my running buddies that they want to do one too! I love reading Ragnar Relay race recaps, they look like so much fun!
11. Would you rather run naked or take a naked yoga class?
Do I really have to pick? Either option is pretty bad.. I mean, yikes! I guess I’d have to pick running naked. As uncomfortable as it would be, both physically and mentally, I can’t imagine taking a naked yoga class. Some of those poses put you in some pretty compromising positions! I have been known to do yoga in my pajama’s though..
12. Would you rather come in 4th in the Olympics or 1st at the New York City Marathon?
I think I’d prefer to be fourth at the Olympics. While winning the New York City Marathon would give you major bragging rights in the running community, I’ve realized that a lot of people outside of the running community don’t really understand what it means to run a marathon. When you say you took fourth in the Olympics, everyone knows you’re a serious athlete.
13. Would you rather give up running for 3 years to get a BQ (Boston Marathon qualifying time) or never BQ but run as much as you want?
Never BQ but run as much as I want. At this point, I’m beginning to wonder if BQing is in the cards for me. Sure, it would be amazing, but I don’t know that I have the desire to put in the serious amount of work that it would take to get there. I have other priorities right now. I can’t imagine not being able to lace up and go for a run whenever I want to and at this moment, that is more important than running fast.
So, now that you know I’d rather run naked forever in new shoes with friends, I want to know what you would pick!
This is fun–I’ll have to do it!
And count me in for Ragnar!!

We’re going to have to get a team together for one of the Ragnar races!
Ooh I love a good running survey! And I definitely want to do a Ragnar at some point!
Me too!! Ragnar is on my bucket list, for sure. They always look so fun!
Fun post! I would rather run a hilly course in the cold vs. flat in the heat.

If we’re being totally honest, I’d prefer cool and flat Hills intimidate me since I’m not used to running on them.
My number one is just like yours, prefer the half for sure.
However, I would run outside instead of on the treadmill.

99% of the time I prefer to run outside, but the idea of doing it around one block would drive me nuts, I think!
I’m registered for another full, but I think it’ll be my last one.. I want to work on improving my half time.
I’m with you on all of these answers!
Can you imagine having to run up and down the same block for an hour?! That would be the biggest mental challenge. I give MAJOR props to all the runners who do 24-hour challenges where they run the same loop for a full day. I cannot fathom what that is like!

There’s an ultra here in Jax where you run a 5 mile out and back 10 times.. I did the relay portion of it and cannot imagine having to do it 10 times!
This is great! I am eyeing Ragnar Keys in 2016. I think it would be a lot of fun.
I think so too. I thought someone told me 2015 was sold out? I need to check.. if it is, it may be 2016 for me too!
I love this survey! I would love to work up the courage for the Ragnar Keys.
I’m with you on the BQ. It would be so great, but the amount of dedication and discipline is just so overwhelming. I can’t even imagine!
Here are all my answers! http://runswithpugs.com/2014/07/08/would-you-rather/
