Our Family is Growing

Meet Rex, as in T-Rex!  (Braden picked his name all on his own!)

We’ve been going back and forth about adopting another dog for the last two months or so.  When Adam’s Uncle Chuck and Aunt Vicki were here, we were talking about how much Braden has leaned on Buddy to help him cope with losing Sammy and she asked if we had thought about getting another dog anytime soon.  At the time, we hadn’t, but as we chatted more about it, I got to thinking that it may not be such a bad idea.

Adam and I went back and forth about it and then about a month ago, a picture of a 4-year-old Golden popped up on the facebook page for GREAT, the rescue that we adopted Sammy from.  This guy could have been Sammy’s twin and I couldn’t get him out of my mind. I noticed a comment on the picture saying that they needed a foster family for him, but that it had to be with a family without kids under five. I emailed the rescue to see if the same rule applied for adopting and unfortunately, it did. Since we have a kid under five, rescuing wasn’t an option and they recommended that we adopt a puppy that would be able to grow up with our kids.

That led me to google and I learned a lot about adopting a golden retriever puppy, what questions to ask, what to look for.. and that led us to Rex!

He’ll be ready to come home with us on Saturday.  Since Braden is on Spring Break this week and I’m suffering from a serious case of over-worked-itis, we’re taking off bright and early in the morning and taking a mommy & B trip to Disney for the day, then staying overnight in Orlando.  We’ll pick Rex up Saturday afternoon in Sarasota, then head back home.

I’m so, so excited and can’t wait for the puppy snuggles and puppy breath!  I’m a little worried about how Buddy will react, but I’m hoping that having a little brother in the house again will help perk him up.  He’s been moping around a lot lately.. so keep your fingers crossed that all goes well when we introduce them Saturday night!

And no worries, I’ll be sure to post lots of cute puppy pictures on instagram once we pick him up!
