I’m Running a Marathon.. TOMORROW!

I’m still not quite sure how it’s already here, but it is.  I should really be trying to go to sleep, but my Dream Water hasn’t quite kicked in yet and I’m a little ball of nervous energy.

We spent the day at the expo (and Adam loved every second! haha!)  and relaxing with friends so I didn’t really have much time to think about tomorrow and obsess over it, which was probably a really good thing.  We loaded up on delicious carbs at Carrabba’s just a bit ago, then headed back to the hotel to get everything ready for the morning and relax.

Oh, our hotel.  Let me tell you something I’ve learned.  Don’t wait ’til the last minute to book your hotel for a sold out race.  And don’t assume that just because a hotel is a host hotel that it will be nice.  You know why?  Because you’ll spend the night before the race in a hotel where the water is an interesting shade of not-exactly-clear-kinda-brownish-yellow when you first turn it on and where the hotel description on a review site includes mention of “ladies of the night” visiting the truckers that often stay here because it’s so convenient to the truck stop next door.

Carbo-loading with beer and football. That’s how you do it too, right? Oh, and also – GO NOLES!!

I promise you I’m not a super hotel snob.. but ew.  I can also promise you that this has taught me my lesson about waiting until the last minute to get race stuff situated!

So, not ideal, but we’re surrounded by lots of other runners and we’re close to the race site, so that’s good.  Also, the not-so-high-demand means we had no issue getting a super late check-out.  Always a silver lining, right?

Anyway, enough of that.  I’m trying to keep an open mind about tomorrow and just take it all in.  Several of my marathon running friends have told me to do that since you only get to run your first 26.2 once.  I’m trying.  I’ve had a few people ask me about my goals.. and I know.. you’re not supposed to make them for your first marathon, but my stubborn self can’t go into it without them, so I’ll share.

A – 4:30

B – 5:00

C – Finish

I think the 4:30 is within reach if all goes well, but I’ll definitely have to push myself out of my comfort zone to get there.  Really though, I think I’ll be thrilled at the end of the day if I cross the finish line on my own two feet.  I guess we’ll see in the morning.  If you’re bored around 11EST tomorrow morning, there will be a live feed of the finish line on the race site, http://www.spacecoastmarathon.com — I should be there sometime between 11 and noon.

T-Minus 9 hours ’til lift-off! :)

(Yes, I’m a nerd.  At least I admit it!)
