Thanksgiving

I’m going a bit backwards today – I have a few things to catch up on while I’m working on my recap of the Space Coast Marathon.  It’s coming, I promise!

Earlier in the week, we celebrated Thanksgiving — both of the kids schools had Thanksgiving luncheon’s so we kicked off our Thanksgiving week with those.  I love seeing them interact with their teachers and friends, it’s a nice little glimpse into what they’re up to when we’re both stuck at work all day.

On Wednesday afternoon, Grandma Ruth (aka Adam’s mom) arrived and we took Braden for a much-needed hair cut and out to lunch. We spent the rest of the day getting ready for the next day. Usually, we alternate years and we were supposed to spend Thanksgiving with Adam’s family this year but since we had such a crazy weekend, we decided it was better for us and the kids if we stayed home this year.

Since we were staying home, we invited some of our friends over that were also in town without their extended family’s and ended up having a really great time. We ended up with my family, Adam’s mom, plus three other family’s — a total of 13 adults and 5 kids. And one dog who kept trying to steal food.

We had enough food to feed an army.  Seriously, I sent nearly everyone home with leftovers and our ‘fridge is still packed full.  Adam used his oilless fryer to fry the turkey (YUM!) and we also had smoked turkey breast, smoked ham, sweet potato soufflé, three different types of stuffing, corn casserole, macaroni and cheese, broccoli casserole, rolls.. and I’m sure I’m forgetting something.  Kind of like I forgot to make the mashed potatoes for dinner.  Oops!  We also had some yummy appetizers and desserts — a cheese tray, veggies with homemade dill dip, bacon wrapped water chestnuts, baked brie with cranberry and walnuts, Braden’s homemade chocolate and chocolate chip cookies, caramel brownies, pumpkin pie, apple pie, brownies with raspberry filling.. and I’m sure I’m forgetting even more.

Like I said, enough food for an army.  Oh, and that’s chocolate on Adam’s nose.  I may have attacked him with the chocolate I was using for the Oreo Truffles.   Ohhh Oreo Truffles, see I told you I forgot something!  They’re my favorite!

We were too busy having fun with everyone to remember to take many pictures, so I apologize for that.  I did snap a few of Mackenzie playing outside — I was trying to get a decent picture of the outfit I made her, but someone wasn’t cooperating.  I’ve been doing a bit of sewing lately, I’ll have a post about it soon!

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
