Field Trip to the Zoo

I have lost my mind, clearly.

I volunteered, without being asked, to chaperone a field trip to the zoo.  With 20 4 and 5 year olds.

For some reason I had it stuck in my head that it was Braden’s last pre-school field trip and I didn’t want to miss it.  Turns out during summer camp, they go on a field trip every week.  Oops!  It worked out in the end because we had a great time.

There were several other parents along for the fun and I was amazed at how well-behaved all of the kids were.  The teachers kept them together and under control better than I can manage my own two.  I was taking notes, for sure.

I love watching Braden interact with his buddies from school, especially when he forgets that I’m there and relaxes with them.  Sometimes when I’m around, I think he feels like he needs to look out for me (such a sweet boy, huh?) and he sticks right beside me.  It’s sweet, for sure, but I really like watching him just be a little boy with his friends.  Their conversations are hilarious.  I promise I only eavesdropped a bit.

I’m so thankful that my company and my boss let me take time off to do stuff like this.  I’d really hate to miss out on it.  I’m going to be bummed if I can’t work out my schedule to tag along on all most of their weekly field trips this summer.

I’m going to miss these kids next year too.  B’s been at his school since he was 6 months old.  I’ve watched some of these kids grow up with him.  I hope that at least a few of them end up at the same elementary school that he’s going to next year.

A day at the Jacksonville Zoo!

We spent the morning wandering around the zoo today. We bought annual passes early this year and intended to go a lot more often, but I guess time got away from us. We really do need to take advantage of them more often, we had such a relaxing morning wandering around and seeing the animals. Mackenzie actually seemed to enjoy herself this time!

How cute are they??  Braden walked up to the side of the stroller and just grabbed her little hand.  I love how much they love each other.  I hope it doesn’t change.

The Dunn’s Visit: Zoo, Bowling, and Emma Ryan

My Uncle Todd, Aunt Teresa, cousins Malori and Mattie, and the little girl Malori nannies for, Emma Ryan came to spend the weekend with us. I don’t know what got into me. I guess because we don’t usually have little visitors, it’s usually my aunts and older cousins and we just want to shop.. but I decided we needed to keep the little ones busy so that Emma Ryan could tell her mom and dad all about how much fun she had visiting us! We started out at the Jacksonville Zoo, one of our favorite places. It was Mackenzie’s first visit.. I think she enjoyed it.

Braden had a great time, as usual.

He and Emma Ryan got along really well and kept each other entertained throughout the day.. they kept us entertained too with their dance moves..

One of B’s favorite parts about visiting the zoo is feeding the giraffe’s.. Mackenzie REALLY wanted to get closer to the giraffes.

After that, we grabbed lunch and let the kids run around on the playground..

Then to visit with the goats for a bit..

And Mackenzie’s favorite, to say hi to the penguins..

I think Braden may have worn Emma Ryan out..

We stopped for a quick trip around the zoo on the train before heading out, it’s fun to see the exhibits from the other side!

After we left the zoo, we headed to Latitude 30 for dinner, some arcade games, and bowling. I think everyone else wanted to go home and relax, and in hindsight, maybe we should have.. but the kids loved it. It was B’s first time bowling.. I think he got his victory dance moves from his Daddy :)

Day at the Zoo

We have annual passes to the zoo and thankfully its nice enough months out of the year that we really get a lot of use out of them. B loves going to see the animals and Adam and I love that it’s a cheap and fun afternoon out :)
