Borland-Groover’s March To Get Screened 5K raises funds for research and education for Colon Cancer, the second leading cancer death. Every dollar raised by participants goes to the BGC Foundation and further education, research, prevention and a cure for Colon Cancer.
The 2015 Gate River Run 15K.. aka the really fun race in Jacksonville that was really freaking hot this year! Not that it really mattered to me, since I didn’t have a time goal this year. In fact, I went into this race determined to have fun and not stress over time so I made it my goal to PR in drink stops. Spoiler Alert – I totally hit my goal!
You know how last year, I ran a marathon, then six weeks later I ran another marathon, then six DAYS later I ran a half marathon? And I said I’d never do that again? I lied. Okay, I didn’t really lie. I didn’t do the whole back to back marathon thing, and I didn’t run a half either, but I did run a race just six days after running a marathon. And you know what? I loved it!
Sooo.. the 2015 Walt Disney World Marathon. That was fun. I’m going be be 100% honest here and say that if it weren’t for the fact that my husband and friends were running this race, there’s a good chance that it would have been my first DNS.
Marathon training starts soon (next week, ack!) and I’ve been thinking a lot about what I want to do differently this training cycle. I ran my first marathon last December and it was hard. Really, really hard. I ran my second marathon six weeks later and it wasn’t so hard. Physically demanding? Definitely. Mentally though, I was in a much better place. I knew I could cover the distance and I knew that not hitting an arbitrary time goal that I came up with wouldn’t kill me.
I debated running the Memorial Day 5K, we didn’t sign up until two days before and ultimately decided to do it because we did it last year. Much like this year, I took a break from running after the Bainbridge Half to let my body recover from the training. My body didn’t really need to recover this year, but mentally I just haven’t been there. I’ve had no desire to run at all. Last year, I ran a PR at the Memorial Day 5K and was really, really happy with my time.
Ohh look, I’m finally recapping the 2014 Gate River Run, it’s about time since the race was in mid-March! Last year was the first time I ran the Gate River Run. It’s a HUGE event in Jacksonville, it seems like everyone in our running community runs it. This year, if I remember correctly, there were just under 20,000 runners and walkers. It’s hard for me to visualize that many people.. maybe it is for you too? This should help.. this is the Main Street Bridge in downtown Jax.
I’ve been looking forward to this race weekend since August, when I applied to be an ambassador for the ZOOMA Florida half marathon. A weekend away with some of my girlfriends, eating at yummy restaurants, running a half in a gorgeous location, an after party old and new friends, lots of wine, massages, yoga, and awesome swag.. who wouldn’t??
I’ve been talking about the Space Coast Marathon since April and training for it since July. Much like everything else, it seemed like it took forever to get here but when I woke up Sunday morning, it was kind of surreal that the day I’d been working so hard for, for so many miles and months, was finally here.
I’m still not quite sure how it’s already here, but it is. I should really be trying to go to sleep, but my Dream Water hasn’t quite kicked in yet and I’m a little ball of nervous energy.
