The Look

Mackenzie has learned a new trick.  Mastered it, actually.  She’s a pro at giving dirty looks.  She’s not shy about it either.  You tell her no, you ask her to stop, you do anything to even mildly annoy her.. this is the look you get.

She makes some sweet faces too, though. She’s such a happy girl and I’m so lucky to be her mama.

Even though she does like to tackle me.

Sick Days

Both kids are sick.

Do you know how exhausting it is taking care of two sick kids?  Especially when your husband has a crazy busy week at work and can’t take off?  And you have work stuff that HAS to get done?

Trust me, it’s exhausting.

I picked Braden up from school early last Thursday for an ENT appointment.  Dr. Wohl was a bit confused because their hearing test showed that he had a fairly significant hearing loss and a lot of negative pressure in his ears.  He said that for now, it’s nothing to worry about and it should hopefully resolve on its own, but we go back in 4 months (instead of the normal 6) to have it rechecked.

We picked Mackenzie up and headed home and while doing baths, I realized that both kids had a fever.. which explains B’s ear issues.  We took Braden to the doctor and he has bronchitis and conjunctivitis.  Mackenzie seemed to feel better for a few days, then got worse, so she was off to the doctor too.  She has an ear infection.

As stressful as it can be sometimes trying to balance work and being a mom, I really do enjoy both.  I’m so lucky to work for a company that allows me to work from home most days, so that I can be here in the mornings with my kids to see them off to school, then again in the afternoons to pick them up and get dinner ready.  The last few days have really made me appreciate those moms who stay at home more, for sure.  I’ve gone back and forth between having one or both kids home plus trying to work and it’s just crazy.  It really makes me appreciate the kids teachers too.  They have a really tough job keeping them happy and engaged every day.  It really does take a village to raise children.

The last few days have been crazy, but good too.  I got a lot of one-on-one time with Braden and he’s such an awesome kid to be around.  So sweet and kind.  Even if he does like chocolate milk on his Froot Loops.

And this girl?  She loves everyone.  She’s always so happy.

I’m lucky to be their mom.

I Love my Boy

Before I had Braden when people would talk to me about how amazingly wonderful their children were, I’d mumble “uh-huh” and “yeah” a lot and my eyes would glaze over. Now I get it. I love this little guy so much and I’m so lucky to be his mom. Every day, he amazes me. He is such a sweet, kind and gentle boy.. I feel so blessed to get to watch him grow up and become a wonderful man, just like his Daddy.

And because its not always puppies and rainbows – this is what life looks like for the mom of a 16-month old.. if I’m not already holding him (all 35 pounds of him!), he’s constantly grabbing my legs whining to be picked up. I love it :)

You’re Gonna Miss This

This song gets me everytime I hear it. It is such a wonderful reminder though, no matter where you are in life.

Here’s a link to the video.. its a tear-jerker.

Trace Adkins – You’re Gonna Miss This

She was staring out the window of their SUV
Complaining, saying I can’t wait to turn 18
She said I’ll make my own money and I’ll make my own rules
Mama put the car in park out there in front of the school
Then she kissed her head and said “I was just like you”

-Chorus-
You’re gonna miss this
You’re gonna want this back
You’re gonna wish these days hadn’t gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you’re gonna miss this

Before she knows it, she’s a brand new bride
In a one-bedroom apartment, and her Daddy stops by
He tells her it’s a nice place
She says “It’ll do for now”
Starts talking about babies and buying a house
Daddy shakes his head and says “Baby just slow down”

-Chorus-
You’re gonna miss this
You’re gonna want this back
You’re gonna wish these days hadn’t gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you’re gonna miss this

Five years later there’s a plumber workin’ on the water heater
Dog’s barkin’, phone’s ringin’
One kid’s cryin’, one kid’s screamin’
She keeps apologizin’
He says “They don’t bother me.
I’ve got two babies of my own.
One’s 36, one’s 23.”
Huh, it’s hard to believe, but..

-Chorus-
You’re gonna miss this
You’re gonna want this back
You’re gonna wish these days hadn’t gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you’re gonna miss this
You’re gonna miss this
Yeah, you’re gonna miss this
