2013 Florida Striders Memorial Day 5K

2013MemorialDay5K

This was probably the most fun I’ve ever had at a race.  I’ve been really looking forward to the Florida Striders Memorial Day 5K for a few reasons — some friends (Jenn from Runs with Pugs and Devon from The Food Bitch Blog) were running with us, our kids were running the 1-mile fun run, and it was the first race I was running against with my brother.

2013 Bainbridge Half Marathon

2013BainbridgeHalf

Bainbridge will always have a very special place in my heart.  I’ve never actually lived there myself, but it is the town where my parents grew up and most of my extended family lives there now.  It’s the place we visited countless times throughout my childhood, and since I was a Navy Brat, it was the one place that always felt like home.  A few months ago, my aunt told me that they were doing a half marathon to benefit the local hospital & nursing home, I really wanted to sign up.  The hospital is where many of my family members are born, where I spent a lot of time hanging out with Mama Carra (my great-grandma), and where I said goodbye to my Papa Merk and Granny Moore.  The race was also held the same weekend as my Granny’s birthday, which made it extra special.  I was a bit gun-shy to sign up since I’d never run a half, but right after we returned from Orlando, where I ran the Princess Half, I signed up and couldn’t wait!

2013 St. Patty’s Day 10K at Evergreen Cemetery

2013StPattyDay10K

Today ran the St. Patty’s Day 10K at Evergreen Cemetery.  Yep, I said “we”.  The running bug bit my husband too and after watching his best friend cross the finish line at the Disney Marathon in January, Adam decided that he wanted to run a half marathon too.  He started training a few months back and had a 6-mile training run scheduled for this weekend.  I wanted to run this race and since it fit well into his training and my racing schedule, we signed up.

2013 Disney Princess Half Marathon

2013PrincessHalf

I kind of don’t know where to start with my recap of the Disney Princess Half Marathon, so forgive me if my thoughts are scattered all over the place.  I was really worried about the early race time, I thought there was no way I’d be able to get to sleep early enough to feel well-rested for the race.  I didn’t get to bed quite as early as I’d like, but I think I was finally out by 9:30PM and surprisingly slept until my first alarm went off.. and then the snooze.  Have I mentioned that I’m not a morning person?

Disney’s Fit for a Princess Expo

Once the meet-up was over, I was eager to make my way over to the expo (after a quick pit-stop to go Soarin’ with my new friend Christina).  This is the first race I’ve done where there is an expo, so to say I was excited would be an understatement.  I went to the expo marathon weekend but it was hard to take my time wandering around since I had Braden with me.  This time, I planned to shop.. oh, and I did.  Adam took the day off to come down and hang out with me at the expo, he’s recently started running too and was excited to sign up for the Wine & Dine half and check out all of the fun running gear.  Before he arrived, I picked up my bib and made my way over to the runners relations booth to change corrals.  I figured my time from my 10K in January would bump me up from E to B.. I was shocked when she slapped this sticker on my bib!
