My Most Recent “Best Run”

Linking up with Miss Zippy today to talk about my most recent Best Run.

I’m in the middle of the Train Like a Mother “5K Own It” training plan and while I’m enjoying the training runs, none of them really stand out as a “best run” for me.  Thinking back over the last month or so, considering all of my training runs and my last few races, I think the one I’d consider the best was the Bainbridge Half Marathon.  First, and probably the most obvious reason, I PR’d by over 11 minutes (from 2:20:24 to 2:08:54).

It was also really great to have my family cheering for me along the course.  It’s really hard to do this for bigger races, so it’s definitely a huge perk of running a smaller race.  The course was fabulous.  Maybe I’m partial to it because I sort of grew up in the host town (I was a Navy Brat, Bainbridge was the only place that felt like “home” to me until we moved here and stayed put), but it’s hard to run through gorgeous neighborhoods lined with beautiful old trees and homes without taking it all in.  It kept me entertained and helped the miles fly by.

There were a lot of things stacked against me — rolling hills, running up an overpass twice, a HUGE hill near the Boat Basin, pouring rain for the last two miles..  Even so, I felt good throughout the entire race and finished strong.  (Please note, this was not anywhere near the finish, I looked like a drowned rat there!)

As with all of my races, I had three goals and hit them all (finished in under 2:15 without getting hurt).  Having an “A” goal day could make this a “Best Run” all on its own!

If you’re anywhere near South West Georgia, this is a race I’d definitely recommend!  You can read my full race report here.
