Five Things Friday

1.  My last two races have made me realize that I’m super competitive with my self.  My 5k time yesterday was 37:12 — nearly 10 minutes longer than my PR!  The entire time we were walking and running, I kept looking at my Garmin and trying not to let it bum me out.  The whole point of yesterday was to just have fun with Adam and Braden, and we did have a lot of fun.  Next time we do a race just for fun, I’m not even going to bother wearing the Garmin, it just stressed me out!

2.  I was talking to a friend yesterday who is a running coach and has run a ton of marathons and after chatting with him I started thinking about running the marathon at Space Coast again.  Why is it so hard to decide?!  He said that knowing me, once I finish my first marathon, I’ll have the marathon bug and want to do more and that six weeks is enough time to recover and run my second one.. and he knows a heck of a lot more about running than I do.  Hmm..

3.  Mackenzie’s 2nd birthday is coming up — we’re doing an Elmo theme and Pinterest has SO many cute ideas.  I kind of wish we were having it at home instead of a kids gym — the kids are going to have a blast there and it will be SO much easier for me, but there is just SO much that I want to do and I can’t do it unless the party is at home.  My bank account (and my husband!) are happy that it’s not at our house, haha!

4.  We had family pictures taken last weekend by Jess with EGD Photography and I am so, so happy with how they turned out.  I’m having a really hard time deciding which ones to order!!  If you’re in the Jax area and looking for someone who is very budget-friendly, great with kids, with quick turn-around, and fabulous pictures — definitely give her a call!

5.  My very first giveaway is over and the winner is.. Elizabeth Luchsinger Trigg!  For her winning entry, she liked Aquaphor on Facebook.  Elizabeth — shoot me an email with your mailing address and we’ll get your prize pack out to you!  If I don’t hear back from her by Monday morning, I’ll pick another winner.

Thank you to everyone who entered the giveaway!  I hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July!  Have a great weekend!

Girl I’m the same way. I walked a 5K with my mom one time and thought I was going to die! It was killing me not to run and took all I could not to jet off! BUT sometimes it’s fun just to enjoy the company and have FUN. Though when you’re competetive it’s so hard to let loose and ignore the Garmin :)

    • I’m glad to hear that I’m not alone!! My husband kept telling me to go ahead and run, he was fine on his own, but he told me at the 1-mile mark and I was like what? We just walked a 12 minute mile, I’d have to haul butt to get back to a normal time and its too darn hot for that! Maybe I should make myself run a few races just for fun to teach me to not be so darn competitive!

When I am running for fun and not for time I leave my Garmin at home so it can’t stress me out, that may be your best bet. Love the photos, they look great!

    • I may have to do that! There was no reason for me to wear it Thursday, I knew we were just going to run for fun and definitely be slower than normal. I need to learn to not focus on numbers so much!

Thanks for the compliment on the pictures!

    • It is, I don’t want to be, but I can’t help it. At least it’s just with myself.. and sometimes my brother :) We did have a wonderful time though, it was a great race, we missed you guys though!

I was talking to Mike about the local races and what he thought of them since he’s run so many and he said Tour de Pain is fabulous — a great time, good race, and a total blast. Are y’all in??

I’m the SAME WAY about race times. I actually turned my Garmin off during one half because I was so frustrated with my time. It happens though.

You new family pics are gorgeous!

I will run chip & garmin free if I’m running to have fun or hang with friends/family. It’s completely okay to step away from the GPS. I totally think you should run both SCM & Disney. The SCM is nice and flat with an out and back course. It’s a perfect first marathon. The Disney can be quite crowded at points but is a ton of fun. You have plenty of time to make a decision. Stop thinking about it for 2 mths and just focus on your training. You can make a decison later.

    • I know it’s okay, I just have a hard time doing it! I’m too competitive with myself! I will learn, one day, I hope!

Mike (my friend that encouraged me to do it) said the same thing — it’s very tempting. My biggest concern was not having Adam and the kids there and when I talked to him about it, he said he’d bring them down and meet me at the finish line if it was important.. so… I may do it. I may not be able to walk in January.. but how fun to finish my first marathon in the same year I ran my first race!

I have a friend running Disney and doing Galloway intervals, if I run the full at Space Coast, I may hang with her at Disney and have fun and not stress!

  7. I’m very competitive with myself, too, even if I’m pushing my daughter in the stroller. I now have a “stroller” PR and an “alone” PR. I LOVE your family picture. What a gorgeous group!

  8. I’m super competitive too! I’m mad that yesterday’s 5k seems to have it’s chip times messed up, even though I got a PR. But I want it to be a bigger PR>

That family picture is ADORABLE! You look amazing! I can’t wait to see more!

    • Ohh that would annoy me! I get frustrated with myself at nearly every race for forgetting to stop my watch!

Thanks for the compliments — I need to figure out which ones we want so I can order the digitals and post the rest!!

I’m so bad with running for fun. It just doesn’t come naturally to me but that doesn’t mean I don’t have fun when I run. Does that make sense :)

    Your family photo is wonderful!

    • Totally makes sense, I’m the same way! I get caught up in the numbers and trying to do better than my last run — I need to learn to relax. It’s hard though!

Thanks for the compliments on the picture!

  10. Love elmo! Pinterest has a ton of resources, have you checked out etsy? I got the cutesy stuff for my sons Mickey Mouse themed first birthday.

Sometimes a run is just for fun!! It’s so easy to get caught up in numbers so I understand. I bet the next one you run will be right where you want to be!

I love that you are considering the marathon! Good luck if you decided yes!

    • I have checked etsy — I used a girl from there last year for all of the printables for both kids parties and they were so great! I need to look for Elmo stuff soon, her party is sneaking up on me!!

I need to be better about running for fun, I totally get caught up in the numbers. My run this morning was MUCH better!
