Disney Marathon Training Week 6, 7 & 8

My Disney Marathon training is not off to a great start and if the past few weeks are any indication of how it will go, I’m in trouble.  Big trouble.  After coming off of a really great week of training (Week 5), the last two weeks were just.. ugh.  Between shuffling the kids around to gymnastics, karate, ballet, Cub Scouts, and tumbling, me getting sick, then Adam getting sick, going out of town for a wedding, etc..  It was just hard.  It is what it is though.  I know that when it comes to balancing marathon training with my duties as a mom, being mom and being there for my family will always win. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Disney Marathon Training Week 6

So, I finished Week 6 of Disney marathon training.. if by finished, we are saying that the days on the calendar went by.. then sure, it’s finished.  I, however, accomplished the amazing task of not finishing (or starting) a single run.. yay me!  Thankfully it was a step back week for me and I’m hoping that a week of recovery just means I’ll come back stronger.

Disney Marathon Training Week 7

Stronger.. right.  Or not.  I started feeling puny on Sunday night and barely got up off the couch Monday and Tuesday.  Thank goodness for Gilmore Girls on Netflix!  Wednesday I started feeling better so I got in a quick 3 miles, then rested Thursday since I was doing my long run on Friday.  Typically I try to do them on Saturday, but we were headed to Atlanta for a wedding so we got up early to make the 6.5 hour drive.  My long run went okay – I struggled toward the end.  I know skipping the weekly runs is not something I can continue to do.. if only I could get a few more hours in the day!  I ended this week recharged after spending time with friends that are like family and was excited to have a killer training week..

Disney Marathon Training Week 8

Instead, I got a killer tummy bug.  Yay me!  I started feeling bad on our drive home from Atlanta Sunday night.  I was bummed because Monday was my birthday and I felt gross most of the day, and also because Adam made what is quite possibly my most favorite food ever – homemade baked ziti – for dinner.  I couldn’t really enjoy it or my cake, boo to 33!  Tuesday, I had to run out and get outfits for us to wear for our family pictures this weekend (I planned to shop Saturday, but our photographer had to move us to Saturday, so that was out).  Wednesday Braden was in a homecoming parade with his Cub Scout pack, which ended up going way longer than expected.  Thursday same thing – except sub in gymnastics and a Cub Scout Halloween party for the parade.  I was so exhausted Thursday night that I passed out on the couch before 9PM.  Friday was Halloween so I had a “rest day” — if you can call it that.  Saturday was another “rest day”, but I spent it walking all over town shopping with my mom, Aunt Kathy, and Mackenzie.  Sunday we stayed home all day and cleaned the house.  I headed out just before 5PM to do my long run and it went really well!  No struggle at all except for a sore muscle in my right toosh/hamstring area.  It got cold too, I had to run by the house halfway through to switch from a short sleeved shirt to long sleeves!

I feel like I should maybe be worried that my training so far has been so nonexistent.  Honestly though, I don’t plan on going into this race with any big time goal.  My body does not handle running long distances well at all so my big goal is going to be to have fun and enjoy the race.  I figure as long as I’m getting my long runs in and at least two of my weekday runs, I’ll be able to do that.  On the other hand, I miss running – especially the weekday easy ones where I can zone out and just run.  I also really miss yoga.  I need to find a way to balance my kids crazy schedules, my training schedule, working full time, keeping the house somewhat clean, feeding us something other than Chick-fil-a and Panera every night, oh and sleeping.  If you have tips, I’m all ears!

  3. I feel ya!! I know this is a couple weeks ago, but I think we’ve decided to make the WDW marathon a fun run, for sure! No time pressures anymore for this girl! I just don’t have the time to commit to focusing on a time goal, let alone have time to get ALL my long runs in, AH!
