Weekly Workout Recap: November 4th – November 17th

It’s taper time!  I’m kind of in denial that in less than two weeks I’ll be running a marathon.  That seems insane.  It is insane, actually.  I’ll be honest, training has been hard.  Work is still so busy and there’s not much I can do about it.  I’m doing the best I can though.  I’m starting to get really nervous about the race.  I know I’ve done the training, I know in my head I can do it, but it still seems SO crazy.  My next weekly workout recap will have the marathon results — AHHH!

Marathon Training – Week 17:

  • Monday – Easy 5 – Ran an easy 5 miles with the Moms Run This Town girls, I love having them to chat with along the way, makes the miles fly by!
  • Tuesday – Cross Train – Does a marathon house cleaning/packing session count as cross training??
  • Wednesday – Cross Train – I went to the Good Form Running Clinic at 1st Place Sports.  We did a quick jog around the parking lot, nothing big.  Planned to go to Power Yoga afterward at the gym, but the instructor was a no-show.  It worked out since I had a mile long to-do list waiting for me when I got home.
  • Thursday - 7 Tempo (1 WU, 5T, 1 CD) – Didn’t happen.  Had to work, then drove to Orlando for the runDisney Meet-Up.  We did an easy 2ish miles (not sure on the exact distance or pace, didn’t wear my watch) around Epcot.
  • Friday – Rest – I ate and drank my way around the world! ;) We had fun at the Expo and Food & Wine festival.  Probably should have rested more, oh well!
  • Saturday – Wine & Dine Half – Ran 13.34 miles @ 10:01 pace.  The race was great, I was not.  I’ll get my race recap up soon, but it was definitely not a good night for me.
  • Sunday – Rest – We had the ZOOMA Training Kick-Off run this morning.  I covered 3 a little over miles but I have no clue how fast, I ran 3/4 of the way then went back to try to find part of the group that got separated from us, but they went the wrong way and beat me back to the store.  Still a fun time!  More details on it soon!

Marathon Training – Week 18:

  • Monday – Easy 5 – Took a rest day since I was supposed to rest yesterday and I didn’t.
  • Tuesday – Easy 3 – Ran an easy 3 miles with my running buddy around the neighborhood – 3.33 miles at 10:31.
  • Wednesday – Cross Train – Power Yoga!  Our normal teacher is still out so we had a sub and it was interesting.  I enjoyed it, but it was a huge change from the normal, relaxing class.  She had us doing hand stands and some crazy moves I’ve never done before.  It was a nice change, but I miss our normal teacher!
  • Thursday - 4 Negative Splits 2/2 – I don’t think I did this and I don’t remember why.
  • Friday – Cross Train – I think I should just change this to a rest day on my calendar since I almost always bail.  There’s a yoga class I really want to try on Friday’s, but it’s at 5:30, which is dinner time.  I actually planned to go this week, but we went a picked up my wedding ring from the jeweler instead (I had to have it sized down).
  • Saturday – Long 12 – I totally bailed and spent the weekend with my family and I’m not at all guilty about it.  Two of my friends had babies last week, so I baked cookies for both of them, took dinner to one, and got lots of baby snuggle time.  Totally worth it and my legs will be even more rested for Space Coast.
  • Sunday – Rest

Weekly Workout Recap: October 21st – November 3rd

I forgot to enter some of these when I did them, I’ve been overwhelmed with work and life the last few weeks so I know I did a few runs that never got entered.  This is pretty close to what I did, I think..

Marathon Training – Week 15:

  • Monday – Easy 4 + 8 Strides – Ran with my running buddy Megan, we did 4.03 miles at 11:18 pace.  Supposed to be an easy run but it didn’t feel easy – I had Mackenzie in the stroller and my legs felt like lead.  Ugh.
  • Tuesday – 7 Yasso 800s – Nope, not happening.  Still sore so I rested my unhappy legs.  I may try to do a few tomorrow night before yoga.
  • Wednesday – Power Yoga – You know I didn’t miss it.  I did, however, miss doing the Yasso’s from yesterday before yoga.
  • Thursday – 6 Tempo (1 WU, 4T, 1 CD) – Y’all, I can’t remember!  I don’t remember bailing on this run, but I didn’t log it on Daily Mile.  I seriously have no clue.  Mommy brain strikes again.
  • Friday – Cross Train/Rest – We went to dinner with my friends for my birthday, so I rested!
  • Saturday – Rest
  • Sunday - Pumpkin Run 10 Mile Race – Ran 10 miles at 9:34 pace.  I was so annoyed with myself because I left my Garmin at home.  It worked out though, just kept an eye on the mile-marker clocks and ran a comfortably hard pace.

Marathon Training – Week 16:

  • Monday – Rest day since I ran hard yesterday morning at the Pumpkin Run.
  • Tuesday – Ran an easy 5ish miles around the neighborhood.
  • Wednesday – Power Yoga – Love my yoga nights!
  • Thursday – Ran 4ish miles around the neighborhood.
  • Friday – Rest
  • Saturday – Long 20 – Ran 20.01 miles at 10:56 pace.  I ran this one with my friend TK, she does 4:1 intervals and I felt really great the entire time.  Never felt fatigued or tired and could have kept going.  I’m thinking about maybe doing some set intervals (maybe 8:1?) for Space Coast.  Still trying to figure out my plan..
  • Sunday – Rest

Weekly Workout Recap: October 7th – October 20th

Doing well — totally surprised myself with the long run in week 14, I thought it would be brutal but I really enjoyed it.  I’m loving running with friends and groups, it’s so much more fun.  I bailed a lot in week 14, it was just a crazy week at work with our customer in the office and a stomach bug.  I’m glad it happened now though and not closer to the race!

Marathon Training – Week 13:

  • Monday – Easy 4 + 6 Strides – Ran 4.12 miles at 9:35 pace.  I felt really good so I pushed the pace past “easy” and finished with 6 strides.
  • Tuesday – 6 Yasso 800s – Exhausted, tired legs, and a case of the cranky pants.  I bailed and spent some much-needed time with my hubby and kids.  I’ll do them tomorrow before yoga.
  • Wednesday – Power Yoga – Favorite day of the week!  I didn’t make up the 800s, but I did run 3 miles while pushing Braden (who is over 50 pounds!) in the stroller — it was way to gorgeous outside to run on the treadmill
  • Thursday – 6 Tempo (1 WU, 4T, 1 CD) – I wasn’t feeling great this morning, I took the day off work to rest and went to a yoga class to help relax which was a mistake because it was not a relaxing yoga class at all!  I did 3 800m repeats and gave it up and went home.  I’m trying to be better about listening to my body.
  • Friday – Cross Train/Rest – I’m sore from yesterdays yoga class so I’m resting to get ready for tomorrows long run.
  • Saturday – Long 12 – Ran 12 miles at 10:26 pace.  Ran the first 5 on my own, then 5 with two of my friends, then the last two on my own.  The first ten flew by and felt easy, then the last two felt miserable.  Running is such a mental game.
  • Sunday – Rest

Marathon Training – Week 14:

  • Monday – Easy 5 – Ran 4 at 10:16 pace.  We had a lot going on tonight so I ended up taking Mackenzie with me in the stroller so Adam could get stuff done around the house.  I could have kept going, but it started sprinkling around 2.5 miles and Mackenzie kept saying “No rain, stop!  Stop rain!” and I felt bad for her, so we cut it short when we passed back by the house.
  • Tuesday – 6 Yasso 800s – I was in the office late in meetings with our customer, made it home in time to eat, get the kids in bed, then pass out myself.
  • Wednesday – Power Yoga – Went to yoga when I probably should have stayed in bed, my tummy was not happy with me.
  • Thursday – 5 Negative Splits 2/2/1 – I had a stomach bug, spent the evening in bed :(
  • Friday – Cross Train/Rest – Rested to get ready for my long run tomorrow!
  • Saturday – Long 18 – I met up with a friend of mine and her running group and ran 16 miles on Amelia Island, then finished up the last two on my own.
  • Sunday – Rest

Weekly Workout Recap: September 23rd – October 6th

I”m a few days late.. I’ve been kind of MIA lately.  Work is really busy right now and we were out of town this weekend (my husband ran the Tower of Terror 10-Miler at Disney Saturday night) and to be honest, I’ve been a bit overwhelmed.  While my blog may have suffered some, my training hasn’t.  I had a particularly rough run on Friday — halfway through a 17-miler, my knee started to hurt.. then the top of my foot.. and it hurt so bad that I texted a few of my running buddies to see if I should just throw in the towel.  I took a long walk break, stopped to stretch, then did 4:1 intervals and was able to finish.  It worried me that it hurt so bad though.  I talked to a few running friends over the weekend and they all told me the same thing — I’m running too much.

I also had a nice talk with a friend who also happens to be a running coach.  I reached out to him to ask if he had any suggestions for doctors (I was worried about my knee and foot) that wouldn’t tell me to stop running.  He was pretty frank with me and told me that our bodies aren’t built to run such long distances and that it’s going to hurt.  When I explained the pain I was having to him (it went away on its own and didn’t bother me at all over the weekend), he said it sounded like my IT Band.  He suggested taking Advil or Aleve before my long runs, more foam rolling, and to cut back on the mileage, so that’s what I’m doing.  Hopefully it works and my body cooperates.

Marathon Training – Week 11:

  • Monday – Easy 4 + 8 Strides – Had to do this on the treadmill due to rain, ran 4 easy then did strides at the end getting progressively quicker, ending at 8mph.  Total distance was 4.39 miles at 10:27 pace.
  • Tuesday – 4 Yasso 800′s – I did 5!  I’m building up to 10 Yasso 800′s two weeks before Space Coast, but one of my friends (hi TK!) encouraged me to shoot for 5 this week and build up earlier, so I did!  I did a 1 mile warm up, 5 x 800m @ 4:00 with 4:00 jogging recovery, and 1 mile cool down.  Total distance was 5.8 miles at 9:22 pace.
  • Wednesday – Power Yoga – Quite possibly my favorite night of the week!
  • Thursday - 6 Tempo (1 WU, 4T, 1 CD) – I curse speed work when I’m doing it, but it’s working!  Did 1 mile warm-up @ 10:17, 3 miles tempo @ 9:23, 9:13, 8:48, 1 mile cool-down @ 10:04.  Total distance was 5.01 miles at 9:32 pace.
  • Friday – Cross Train – Does driving 3-hours to Bainbridge and chasing my kids around a wedding rehearsal count as cross training?  Because that’s what I did today!
  • Saturday – Long 14 –  I was in Bainbridge for my cousins wedding so I ran around town, the first few miles one of my cousins tagged along.  I got lost a few times and stopped by another cousins house to refill my water bottle.  I love running there :)  Ran 14.01 miles at 11:28.
  • Sunday – Rest

Marathon Training – Week 12:

  • Monday – Easy4 – First time running with a group of moms in the neighborhood, having company made the miles fly by!  Ran 5.56 miles at 11:50 pace.
  • Tuesday - 5 Yasso 800′s – I love doing these!  1 mile warm-up @ 10:21, 5 x 800m @ 4:00 with 4:00 jogging recovery, cool down @ 10:21.  Total distance was 5.38 miles at 9:43 pace.
  • Wednesday – Power Yoga – Definitely did not pass on this!
  • Thursday – Rest – Long run tomorrow, so I rested.
  • Friday - Long 17 – Ran the first few miles with a new running friend and they flew by!   This is the run where my knee and foot really hurt.  I probably should have bailed early on it, but I’m stubborn.  Ran 17.01 miles at 11:24 pace.
  • Saturday – Rest – I ran 200m in.. I have no clue how long.  Started the day at the runDisney Kids Races then finished watching my husband and several friends cross the finish line at the Tower of Terror 10-Miler!
  • Sunday – Rest
