Happy New Year!

Like many of you, at the beginning of last year, I set some goals for 2014.  I went back and read over the list just a bit ago and.. I did okay?  I had ten goals and I mostly hit six of them.  I wasn’t considering them resolutions or even things that I needed to get done in 2014.  If they happened before the year was over, great.  If not, I’d keep trying.

This year, I had big hopes to start 2015 off right.  Since the end of 2014 was full of injury and slacking off from running, I wanted to start fresh with 2015 and re-focus on my goals.  I’ve fallen back into old habits (oh hello chocolate, yes I will eat you every single day!) and if I don’t get my act together soon, I’m going to start seeing numbers on the scale again that I haven’t seen in a while.  Actually, the numbers on the scale don’t really phase me, it’s more the number on the tag in my jeans!  This time last year, I was solidly in size six jeans and while I wasn’t exactly rocking a six pack, I was happy in my skin.  Today, I can squeeze into the sixes, but the eights are more comfy and I’m not so comfortable in my skin.  Most of it is due to the bad habits I fell back into over the last few months.

My hopes were kind of shot when I started off the year with a nasty sinus infection that had me in bed for nearly a week.  Y’all, I haven’t run in way too long.  And I’m running a marathon this weekend.  Yeah, should be interesting.

So, new plan.  For me, 2015 is going to start on Monday, January 12th.  Between now and the marathon, I’m going to have fun at Disney with my husband and friends and try my best to have an amazing time “running” the marathon on Sunday.  Then when Monday rolls around, I plan to hobble downstairs and focus on my new set of goals.  So here’s an update on the goals I accomplished in 2014 and what I’m going to work on in 2015:

Goals Accomplished in 2014

1.  Potty train Mackenzie.  She’s still in pull-ups at night, but that’s okay with me.  She’s otherwise potty trained and I am SO happy about that!

2.  More unconnected time with the kids.  I definitely improved here, but I think this is one of those things where there is always going to be room for improvement so I’m keeping it on the list for next year.

3.  More date nights/weekends away with Adam.  This is another one that we did more of in 2014, but I think since his mom moved to the area (aka another babysitter we trust!) we need to try harder to make time for us.  So accomplished, but still staying on the list.

Yep, this is a REALLY old picture!

4.  Redo the guest room/office.  I’m calling it done.  We did redo the room, I just haven’t hung stuff up on the walls yet and I’m hoping that my dad will build us a bookshelf for the room, so I haven’t shared the completed pictures yet.  Hopefully soon!!

5.  Find an amazing marathon to run.  Chicago, it’s going on the bucket list.  I keep saying I don’t want to run another one anytime soon and that’s fine, but I’ve heard so many amazing things about Chicago.  I definitely want to run it one day.

6.  Find a better breakfast option.  I’m still guilty of stopping at Starbucks maybe a little too often, but I don’t do pop-tarts for breakfast anymore!  I usually eat BelVita breakfast biscuits (blueberry are my favorite) or sometimes VitaTops.  Always with a big cup of coffee (or three) and sometimes Healthy Skoop A-Game.

2015 Goals

1.  More unconnected time with the kids.  This is probably going to be a goal of mine until.. well probably until forever.  I have a lot of obligations, but my kids are my priority and I am going to continue working hard every day to make sure they know that.

2.  More date nights/weekends away with Adam.  Marriage is hard, but it’s a lot less hard when you get to spend time with your spouse when you can really talk to one another and connect, instead of talking about who is handling daycare pick-up, what groceries we need, what’s for dinner, etc.  Keeping this one on the list for sure.

3.  Sub-2 half.  I know this may not happen in 2015, but it’s a big goal of mine and one I’m going to keep working on.

4.  Add in strength training.  I failed even harder than before at this last year, which is why I’m hurt.  I even bailed on  yoga, which I love!  A new gym opened near my house though and I joined so I’m hoping that going there plus the exercises that my chiropractor gave me will be the kick-in-the-butt that I need to really do it this year.

5.  Run with a group.  I love running with friends.  Once I pick up the pace a little, I’d love to have a regular running date with my girlfriends!

So happy 2015 to everyone!  I hope your year is off to a better start than mine!  Cheers!

Mackenzie really wasn’t sure what to think about her sparkling grape juice!

  1. I love Belvita cookies. And they’re good to keep in the car for an on-the-go snack instead of stopping for a bag of M&M’s or a KitKat.

  2. A sub 2 half is one of my big goals too.
