Hey look, I’m finally writing my recap for the Disney Enchanted 10K.. only like 2 months late!
So, lets rewind back to February. I spent the first few weeks of the month battling a nasty sinus infection. Since Mackenzie is nursing, I can’t take regular meds to kick the germs to the curb so I was relying on natural remedies.. which don’t seem to work as quickly for me. Long story short, I missed a lot of training runs and was not going into this race feeling great.
Even so, I was excited about the Enchanted 10K because it was my first 10K at Disney World. I really like racing the 10K distance – it’s far enough that it’s not an all out sprint like a 5K, but it’s not as daunting as a half or full. I wasn’t sure how to pace myself since I was short on training and I knew I had a half to run the next day. Given all that, I decided to just go with whatever felt good and embrace the “It is what it is” mentality. I didn’t have any goals other than to finish and have fun, and I achieved both. Here are my splits:
1 – 9:56
2 – 9:45
3 – 9:21
4 – 11:40
5 – 11:11
6 – 11:20
.2 – 9:40
It’s kind of easy to see that I started off feeling good, but then everything started to catch up to me. Instead of beating myself up over it, I gave myself permission to walk when I felt like it and just enjoy the race. On top of a half the next morning, I had a full day at the Magic Kingdom with my family and I didn’t want to be miserable for that.
The course was okay, but I don’t know that I’d run another race with the same course. It was kind of boring, especially since it was dark out the entire time. Half the course was just on a road in the woods – I can run that for free at home. Early on, we went under an overpass and Elsa was on top and it was snowing – that was kind of fun
My official finish time was 1:05:54 – definitely not a PR.. actually, now that I think about it, I think it’s my slowest 10K time! It was a nice start to the weekend though and I was looking forward to getting back to the hotel to get our day at Disney started!
If you’re curious, you can check out more in-depth details about my run on Strava! I’ve started logging all of my runs on there instead of daily mile and I am loving it!
Congrats on finishing and giving yourself permission to just enjoy it, those races are the best.

Thanks, Abby! I agree, I’ve been letting myself relax some and enjoy races lately and I’ve been having a lot more fun with them.
You didn’t feel your best, yet you still finished with a smile. Way to go!
